Getting to Tonga

Vava’u feels a world away.

Getting here is part of the journey.

Your Swimming with Gentle Giants expedition takes place in the Vava’u island group in the north of Tonga. Most guests travel to Vava’u via Fiji, or fly into Tonga via Australia or New Zealand before connecting with a domestic flight to Vava’u.

Once you arrive in Vava’u, we’ll take it from there.

International flights to Tonga

For most international travellers, we recommend flying to Nadi, Fiji and connecting directly to Vava’u. This allows you to arrive in Vava’u without travelling via Tonga’s main island of Tongatapu.

Alternative routes are available via Fua’amotu International Airport on Tongatapu, with onward domestic connections to Vava’u.

Flight routes and schedules can change, so we recommend checking current services before booking your international travel.

PLANNING YOUR CONNECTIONS

Leave time for the journey

Travel in the South Pacific doesn't always run to a perfect timetable.

We recommend allowing plenty of time between international and domestic connections and building some flexibility into your travel plans.

Depending on your flights, spending a night on Tongatapu before continuing to Vava’u may be the most comfortable option.

If you're unsure how your flights fit with your expedition dates, speak with us before booking.
